Who is St. Trina
You may recognize St. Trina from her Lillies growing in many otherwise unremarkable corners of the Lands Between.
In the base game, St. Trina was a mythical figure, but she plays a major role in Shadow of the Erdtree.
How to reach the Stone Coffin Fissure and St. Trina
The Stone Coffin Fissure is a small dungeon located beneath the ocean, with St. Trina at its deepest point.
Stone Coffin Fissure Location
The entrance to the Stone Coffin Fissure dungeon is located at the end of the longest peninsula on the Cerulean Coast. You’ll need to get past a Hefty Cracked Pot-chucking Troll and gobs of semi-sentient Putrescence.
You won’t be able to enter the Stone Coffin Fissure until Miquella has shattered his Great Rune, which happens as soon as you approach the main gate of the Shadow Keep on Scadu Altus.
St. Trina Location
St. Trina is guarded by the Putrescent Knight boss at the end of the Stone Coffin Fissure dungeon. You’ll find Thiollier there as well, once you’ve progressed in his quest enough.
Weapons of St. Trina
There are 3 weapons directly associated with St. Trina. One of which, the Velvet Sword, is located inside the Stone Coffin Fissure, while the other 2 are located in the Lands Between.
Velvet Sword of St. Trina
The Velvet Sword of St. Trina is a significantly enhanced version of the original Sword of St. Trina. It has superior stats in almost every way, deals a greater proportion of its damage as Magic, and is one of the only items in the game that applies the stronger Eternal Sleep buildup.
You can loot the Velvet Sword of St. Trina from beneath a stone coffin near Miquella’s Cross.
It’s a bit tricky to drop down to this location, but you can do it from one of the last coffins before you begin seeing Putrescent Gravebirds near the precipice by the Fissure Cross.
Sword of St. Trina
The regular Sword of St. Trina is one of the earliest and easiest-to-get weapons with Intelligence scaling, though it is weaker than both the Velvet version and less reliable than the Moonveil Katana.
You can loot the Sword of St. Trina from the chest at the Forsaken Ruins in Caelid, right near the border to Limgrave. You’ll need to unlock the door with a Stonesword Key.
St. Trina’s Torch
St. Trina’s Torch has a purple flame and applies Sleep buildup. Unfortunately, it’s a torch.
You can loot St. Trina’s Torch from the chest in the caravan meandering through the blizzard at the Consecrated Snowfield on its way to the Haligtree. The caravan is traveling between the Hidden Path to the Haligtree and the Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs.
Mass of Putrescence Sorcery
Mass of Putrescence is effectively a Ghostflame version of Cannon of Haima, an explosive AoE Sorcery. It requires some Faith in addition to Intelligence and trades the ability to hit things off the ground for Frost application.
You can loot the Mass of Putrescence from a corpse at the concealed fork in the road after getting past the gauntlet of Stone Snake laser snipers.
Drop down to the lower left path that wraps around to the hole in the wall behind the giant wad of Putrescence.
Multilayered Rings of Light Incantation
Multilayered Rings of Light is another version of the Rings of Light that is larger than the Discus and deals damage while it remains in contact with an enemy before returning.
You receive the Multilayered Rings of Light Incantation for defeating the golden Leonine Misbegotten on the main upper path at the fork in the road after making it past the aforementioned Stone Snake laser gauntlet and congealed Putrescence.
All St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook Locations
There are 3 St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbooks, the third of which is located within the Stone Coffin Fissure, while the first 2 are located along the Cerulean Coast.
St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook 1
St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook [1] contains the recipe to craft the Eternal Sleep (Ritual) Pot.
You can loot St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook [1] from a corpse meditating by a large tree and one of those repulsive Cemetery Shades north of the Cerulean Coast Cross.
St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook 2
St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook [2] contains the recipes for (Drawstring) Eternal Sleep Grease.
You can loot St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook [2] from a corpse meditating at the highest point on the Cerulean Coast peninsula near the entrance to the Stone Coffin Fissure.
St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook 3
St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook [3] contains the recipe for the Lulling Branch, which is a superior version of Starlight Shards, though it will make you go to sleep eventually. It recovers 150 FP over 60s (compared to 120) and builds 300 Sleep status.
It’s great for casters and synergizes with light armor, which tends to offer some of the best Resistance boosts (and non-Physical Damage Negation). However, you won’t want to use it with the Divine Beast and Hornsent stuff that doesn’t offer any Focus because you’ll get sleepy too fast.
You can loot St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook [3] from the Garden of Deep Purple next to the plant lady herself.
Based on the item description, I suspect that the Lulling Branch might also be able to break Miquella’s charm in the final boss fight just like his Great Rune can, but I wasn’t able to test it successfully.
Regardless, the Lulling Branch either has or was clearly intended to have some additional purpose. The cookbook’s location and recipe being listed at the very front of the crafting list are far too prominent, especially combined with the item’s implicative description.
All Nectarblood Burgeon Locations
The Lulling Branch is useful enough that it warrants documenting the location of all the Nectarblood Burgeons, a non-renewable material required to craft it.
Cerulean Coast Cross (x2)
You’ll find 2 Nectarblood Burgeons at the Cerulean Coast Cross in lieu of the usual Empyrean Blood Burgeons.
Near the Velvet Sword of St. Trina
There’s a Nectarblood Burgeon at the exit to the little cavern where you find the Velvet Sword of St. Trina.
Past the Stone Snakes
There is a Nectarblood Burgeon as you’re looking back from the upper Stone Snake that’s part of a duo that snipes you with their laser beams.
Near Mass of Putrescence
Near the Mass of Putrescence, you can find a single Nectarblood Bloom at the edge of the cliff. Be prepared to evade the Putrescence Blob above.
Stone Coffin Near Fissure Depths
The stone coffin preceding the Fissure Depths Site of Grace has 3 Nectarblood Burgeons on it.
Farming Animals
The regular animals snoozing at the Fissure Depths Site of Grace have a very small chance to drop one alongside other normal animal crafting materials.
It’s quite a rare drop. I didn’t always get even a single Nectarblood Burgeon per eradication with 256 Discovery (80 Arcane + Silver Scarab Talisman).
Garden of Deep Purple (x6)
You can pluck 6 Nectarblood Burgeons from the Garden of Deep Purple, where St. Trina is.
Putrescent Knight Boss Rewards
The boss of the Stone Coffin Fissure and protector of St. Trina is the Putrescent Knight. You’ll encounter him after stepping off of the stone coffin where a ghost is kneeling and plummeting down to the Garden of Deep Purple.
Your reward for defeating this clump is the Remembrance of Putrescence, which you can exchange for either the Putrescence Cleaver or Vortex of Putrescence with Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold.
Putrescence Cleaver
The Putrescence Cleaver is a Greataxe that scales with Arcane, not Intelligence or Faith, but deals a third of its damage as Magic and applies Frost. It’s best used alongside the Maternal Staff and Finger Sorceries from Count Ymir.
It comes with a Unique Skill: Spinning Guillotine, which does an infinitely spammable version of the Putrescent Knight’s signature combo move where he spun at you multiple times and had the Putrescent Horse plop out of the goo.
Unfortunately, the Unique Skill: Spinning Guillotine does not cause your Spectral Steed, Torrent, to briefly appear and charge your target after 2 rotations. It’s truly one of the greatest tragedies in modern gaming history.
Vortex of Putrescence
Vortex of Putrescence is a Sorcery that conjures Putrescence and causes it to leap out from your Staff in a spiral pattern that surrounds you and engulfs the ground around you in Ghostflame. It’s just like what the Knight can do towards the end of the fight.
Thiollier and St. Trina
Thiollier and St. Trina are part of the same story that takes place at the Garden of Deep Purple at the bottom of the Stone Coffin Fissure. The bulk of your interactions with Thiollier happen down there, and you’ll get a few rewards for doing his quest.
Thiollier’s Questline
Thiollier is infatuated with St. Trina and the notion of prideful euthanasia (AKA Eternal Sleep) by imbibing her nectar. You first meet Thiollier at the Pillar Path Cross on the Gravesite Plain near the Suppressing Pillar.
Once Miquella has shattered his Great Rune, speak to Moore at the Main Gate Cross. The Talk to Moore option should cause him to give you the Black Syrup for Thiollier, though you might need to speak to Thiollier first.
Then, return to Thiollier and give him the black Syrup. If you share a desire to end it all with him after giving him the Black Syrup, he’ll give you Thiollier’s Concoction in return.
After you’ve visited the Cerulean Coast, speak to Thiollier again, and he will inform you that he plans to go there in search of St. Trina. You’ll find him again at the Garden of Deep Purple below the Stone Coffin Fissure in front of St. Trina and can summon him to help you defeat the Putrescent Knight if you wish.
Exhaust his dialogue and then keep imbibing St. Trina’s Nectar until you get St. Trina to talk to you. Then, continue to exhaust Thiollier’s new dialogue. Tell him what St. Trina said to you, and go back to imbibing.
Thiollier will eventually invade you once you respawn and drop the St. Trina’s Smile Talisman. Talk to him after you beat him up, exhaust both his and St. Trina’s dialogue and that’s it!
St. Trina and Thiollier Quest Rewards
There are a few unique items you get from Thiollier or St. Trina as a result of doing their quest.
St. Trina’s Smile Talisman
St. Trina’s Smile is the “Exultation” Talisman for the Sleep Status Effect. It boosts your damage dealt by 20% for 20s after someone falls asleep nearby.
You receive St. Trina’s Smile for defeating Thiollier at the Garden of Deep Purple after he physically attacks you for upsetting his delicate sensibilities.
This Talisman should have been called Special Snowflake’s Exultation.
Thiollier’s Armor Set and Hidden Needle (minor spoiler)
You can loot Thiollier’s Armor Set and Hidden Needle while he “sleeps” in front of the Gate of Divinity at Enir-Ilim. You might not get all if you didn’t finish his quest at the Garden of Deep Purple. However, you do not need to summon him for the boss fights or give him the Black Syrup to get everything.
Check out our Shadow of the Erdtree: All Quest Rewards guide for more information on these items.
St. Trina’s Blossom (minor spoiler)
St. Trina’s Blossom is a headpiece that boosts your max FP by ~6%, roughly equivalent to +4 Mind without diminishing returns. It looks pretty good with the Dancer Armor Set.
Return to the Garden of Deep Purple after defeating Consort Radahn and Miquella at the Gate of Divinity.
